Since the release of Chromatics' Kill For Love, Johnny Jewel has released a series of soundtracks and solo records. Each has some great tracks but is also frustrating as they don't bring new Chromatics and Glass Candy albums. Windswept is the gem among his solo releases. It distills the appealing elements from The Other Side Of Midnight, Lost River, and Double Exposure. Every track here is like a movie, with careful layering, detailed attention, and unforgettable melodies. There's no 'In The City' or 'Beatific', but Windswept offers the best of Italians Do It Better's post - Twin Peaks sound. It ranges from tender dreampop like 'Slow Dreams' to woozy vibraphone reveries such as 'The Crimson Kiss' and 'Motel', haunted jazz like 'Stardust' and 'The Flame', and neo - Blade Runner vibes from tracks like 'Missing Pages' and 'Strobe Lights'. The title track is the theme for Twin Peaks: The Return's Dougie Jones, and it seems tailor - made for Lynch's reboot. IDIB says there are more Windswept tracks in the series, but we're not ready to re - watch 18 hours to confirm. This limited - edition LP is pressed on red vinyl, comes in a deluxe gatefold with a printed inner sleeve. It was originally released in 2017 and is from the Italians Do It Better label in 2024.
