Madonna's self - titled debut and 'Like a Virgin' set her on the path to pop stardom. 'True Blue' is the album that catapulted her to the top in the 80s and beyond, ranking alongside greats like Prince and Michael Jackson. Inspired by Sean Penn, her husband at the time, it's a landmark dance - pop album that influenced many later works. 'Live to Tell' was the first single, followed by 'Papa Don't Preach' and the Motown - inspired 'True Blue', which sparked MTV's 'Make My Video' contest.
